What is a domain name Registrar?
A domain name Registrar is authorized by ICANN to register and manage domain names. Registrars are responsible for maintaining the information entered into the WhoIs database.
What is DNS?
DNS stands for Domain Name Servers. DNS allows a domain name to resolve to the numeric IP address assigned by Cyber MediaWorks. When you move hosting companies, you will need to update your DNS to ensure that the domain name points to the correct server.
What is your Domain Name Server (DNS) information?
Our DNS servers are listed as follows:
dns1.name-services.com
dns2.name-services.com
dns3.name-services.com
dns4.name-services.com
dns5.name-services.com
Please make sure that you point to all five servers and make sure that we are aware that you are pointing to our servers so that we can add the proper records.
Do I own the domain name?
Yes, you are the owner of the domain name. If you move your domain name to another hosting company, you will still manage your domain name via Cyber MediaWorks if you registered it through us. Additionally, we will continue to collect registration fees for your domain name as long as you would like to maintain that name.
Is my domain registration information public?
Yes, the contact and registrant information is public record in the universally available Whois database. Complete and accurate information is required to maintain your domain registration.
I am registering a new domain name. Who is the registrar?
By using our website to register your domain name, we can assure that your DNS records are set correctly and that there are no problems with your services. We partner with Enom, Inc. as our registrar
Can you host a non-U.S. domain name?
Yes. Currently we only register US domain names, however if you have a non-U.S. domain name already registered, we can provide service for you.
How long does it take to process a new domain name or to transfer an existing domain name?
Domains take up to 72 hours to process and get working on your website. For domain transfers the start time begins when you approve the domain transfer.
Is hosting a domain name the same thing as transferring a domain name?
No, when you open an account with us you are only opening a hosting account. A hosting account is essentially a rental agreement for space on our servers, to house your email files.
Transferring your existing domain name is highly recommended. When you transfer your domain name, you are changing the company who is responsible for maintaining the registration information and the domain name renewal. Only with full access to your domain name we can we guarantee that your domain name is correctly pointed to our servers.
Can I transfer my domain registration?
Most domains qualify for Registrar transfer. Below are specific requirements and limitations you can use to determine if your domain name registration can be transferred:
Your domain name has been registered with your current registrar for at least 60 days and is in good financial standing.
The administrative contact email address on file for the domain name is a valid working email address. If you do not have access to this email address, please contact your current registrar for information on changing it before initiating a transfer of registrar request.
The domain name cannot be involved in a domain dispute or have a registry lock.
The domain name cannot be expired or within 10 days of expiring. If the domain has expired or is about to expire, you will need to renew with your current registrar before a transfer of registrar can occur.
Please note that eligibility for transfer does not guarantee that the transfer request will be successful.
How do I update my DNS to Cyber MediaWorks if it is registered with another registrar?
When you purchased your domain name you should have received a username and password combination from your registrar. You will need this information in order to modify your domain name to point to our servers. If you do not have this information you will need to contact the company you purchased the domain name from.
Once you have this information you can login to your Registrar's website and make modifications to your domain name record. First, login to your Registrar and look for something called DNS, Domain Name Servers or Name Servers. You will need to modify these entries to reflect our Name Servers as indicated below:
Name Server #1
dns1.name-services.com
Name Server #2
dns2.name-services.com
Name Server #3
dns3.name-services.com
Name Server #4
dns4.name-services.com
Name Server #5
dns5.name-services.com
Make sure that the entries above are the only ones showing and delete any others that are listed. Some registrars require you to verify this change via an email.
Once you have successfully modified the DNS entries it can take 24-72 hours for them to propagate throughout the Internet.
Can Cyber MediaWorks transfer my domain name Registrar to Cyber MediaWorks?
Yes, we can help you switch your domain name registration to Cyber MediaWorks. Let Cyber MediaWorks assist you in your Domain Management
What is a Domain Pointer?
A domain pointer is a separate domain name that points to your domain hosted with us or any IP address you provide to us. This allows a visitor to access the same website with both domain names. Example: You have a website called abc.com, but have registered another domain name called xyz.com. A domain pointer allows you to set up the xyz.com domain name so that when a user types in xyz.com, they will be sent to the abc.com website. This not only applies to the user's website, it also works with email accounts. For example joe@abc.com and joe@xyz.com point to the same mailbox. Both domains have to be hosted with us. Note that we can only point to domain names or IP addresses and not to website subdirectories.
What is an MX Record?
An MX Record allows domain owners the ability to have their email services hosted at another location. The MX record will point to the IP address or hostname of their email server. An MX record is required for email to process smoothly.
